Mission Trip to Ukraine
When I was in high school I went on a mission trip to Ukraine and worked at a camp that was provided for orphans and children that were in foster care. While there, we engaged in many activities with the kids, but one specific activity that made an impact on my future career goals was playing soccer games with the children. We noticed that some of the kids were selfish while playing, for example keeping the ball to themselves and not willing to work with them team they were on. We explained the importance of working together as a team and made the analogy that it was comparable to working together as a family. We noticed that this explanation really intrigued the kids, as working together as a family is something they had never done before. The children began passing the ball more and working as a team instead of individually. This particularly fascinated me because we were able to relate something the children were familiar with to something that they were not as familiar.

Knowledge and Practice of Connection Strategies
In the course, Effective Guidance of Young Children, I wrote a paper that provides three ways in which I used connection strategies to form a bond with a four year old. I objectively describe the child's strengths across domains in the California Preschool Developmental Profile.
